Sports Sirens: These are some of the loudest female voices in Sports!


In the sports scene which is known to be male-dominated, women have increasingly taken space, smashed records, and broken down barriers.

The spotlight is usually shone on the remarkable female athletes who keep the sports scene on its toes. In this article, we’ll be swiveling the limelight to five outstanding women who work behind the scenes — and in front of cameras to make the sports industry more inclusive and diverse for women.


Benny Bonsu

She is the Director of Daily Content for the Olympics platform and a global sports broadcaster and producer.


She covered the first NBA Africa game in 2015 and is an awardee for Ghana Sports excellence


Simbi Sonuga


Her work in a nutshell

Senior manager of Strategic operations at Sports and Entertainment marketing company, Octagon.


She was nominated for the Football Black List, an annual list that showcases and celebrates contributions made by individuals with African or Caribbean origins to Football.


Lola Ogunbote

Her work in a nutshell

She is a lawyer turned soccer coach helping female soccer players around the world lead more fulfilling lives.


In 2021, she was appointed as Burnley FC Women’s first business lead.


Shon Osimbo

Her work in a nutshell

She has garnered over a decade’s worth of experience in Sports Broadcasting as a reporter and producer.


She considers it her mission to amplify women in sports, locally and internationally.


Shirley Acquah-Davis

Her work in a nutshell

She is a biomechanist interested in measuring and evaluating human movement using sport tech.


She is a 2022 fellow of the Women in Sports Tech (WiST) fellowship.
