Headscarves Amongst Turbans, Kallabi Tsakanin Rawunna, a documentary about Hijabi women in male-dominated sports fields premieres

Kallabi Tsakanin Rawunna is the Hausa phrase for Headscarves amongst Turbans and it is a phrase usually used to describe women, particularly Muslim women, who are excelling in male-dominated industries.

Headscarves Amongst Turbans is a documentary/web series that follows the lives of four women from Nigeria’s northern community who excel in the nontraditional male-dominated sports industry.

The documentary features polo players, Hadiza Shehu and Aishat, Hanan Isah, a drifter and Aisha Shuaibu who is the president of SWASports, a sports promotion company.

Directed by Eseose Mohammed and produced by journalist, Kiki Mordi among others, the web series will premier during the Sokoto Book and Art Festival (SobaFest) 2022, happening on the 4th-6th of November.

This documentary is created by Document Women, an award-winning media platform combating erasure by documenting women’s historical and present contributions to society.
