5 health habits you shouldn’t ignore!

‘Health is wealth!’

Says everyone! Why, then, do we not put as much intentionality into staying healthy as we do into making money?

There are several reasons you should actively and intentionally ensure you are in a healthy state of body and mind.

One, you enjoy life more when healthy! You can go out with family and friends and have peace of mind. Another is the financial strain of sickness, not just on you but on your loved ones too.

Sickness is not planned and, sadly, sometimes cannot be helped. However, if there are actions you can take to prevent illness, then you know what to do!

Here are five health tips we think you should take very seriously to have a better quality of life!

1. Drink water, sis! Lots of it!

The benefits of always staying hydrated cannot be overemphasized.

Water prevents kidney damage, cushions the brain, spinal cord, and other sensitive organs, delivers oxygen to the entire body, boosts skin health and beauty, and so much more.

For your health, you must pay attention to how much water you drink daily. Most people drink to quench their thirst, and this helps with the daily water intake (which is about 3 litres for Adult women)

One tip to ensure you always stay hydrated is to invest in a fun, fancy, and functional water bottle.

2. Rest!

No, really. Rest!

Getting enough sleep helps in a lot of ways. It helps improve your performance and focus. It prevents depression. It lowers the risk of heart disease. It makes you more mentally and emotionally alert. The list could go on.

One thing to note is that while getting at least seven hours of sleep at night is paramount, the quality of sleep is also essential.

3. Don’t Ignore The Fruits and Veggies!

According to a Harvard study, a diet high in vegetables and fruits can lower blood pressure and reduce the risk of heart disease and stroke. It can also prevent certain types of cancer, lower the risk of eye and digestive problems, and positively affect blood sugar, which can help control appetite. Non-starchy vegetables and fruits, such as apples, pears, and green leafy vegetables, may even help you lose weight.

A way to seamlessly add more fruits and vegetables to your diet is through smoothies. Check out our article on five smoothie recipes you should try to get started.

4. Exercise

Move!

Physical activity is crucial because it can improve your brain health, help you manage your weight, lower your risk of disease, strengthen your bones and muscles, and improve your ability to do everyday tasks.

There are various fun ways to engage in a physical activity besides the traditional gym exercise. Dancing classes, Yoga, Pilates, and more. Find one that suits you and move!

5. Prioritize your Mental health, too!

It is easy to focus on staying physically healthy and forget that the mind also needs intentionality to remain healthy.

Mental and physical health are intertwined because neglect of one would adversely affect the other and vice versa. If you act on all the above-listed tips, your mental health is significantly better than someone who doesn’t.

Another thing you shouldn’t overlook is Therapy. There used to be a stigma concerning people who went for Therapy, but in recent times, that has changed. Working in a therapeutic relationship with a psychologist, therapist, or counsellor allows you to explore your thoughts, feelings, and reactions to situations.
