Princess Owowoh Oluchukwu Becomes The First Nigerian Female Officer To Graduate From UK’s Military Academy
Officer Cadet Owowoh Princess Oluchukwu has shattered a glass ceiling, becoming the first-ever Nigerian woman to graduate from the prestigious Royal Military Academy Sandhurst (RMAS) in the UK. The 24-year-old Princess joined 134 other Officer Cadets in graduating during the RMAS Sovereign’s Parade in London today.
This graduation ceremony marked the culmination of 44 weeks of rigorous training for Officer Cadets in Commissioning Course 232. While His Majesty King Charles couldn’t attend, the ceremony was graced by Général d’armée Pierre SchillI, Chief of the Army Staff of the French Army.
Princess’ accomplishment is doubly historic: not only is she the first Nigerian woman, but also the 190th Nigerian graduate from Sandhurst. This graduation marks a significant milestone in the UK’s longstanding commitment to supporting Nigeria’s military education.
Princess’ journey began in 2018 when she joined the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) in Kaduna State. Her leadership qualities shone through her ranks as she was appointed Cadet Lance Corporal in her second year, Cadet Sergeant in her fourth, and finally Company Senior Under Officer Charlie (CSUO C) in her fifth year.
Reflecting on her achievement, Officer Cadet Owowoh Princess Oluchukwu stated, “It is a profound honor to be the first Nigerian female officer to graduate from Sandhurst. This achievement is not mine alone, but a testament to the unwavering support of my family, mentors, instructors, and countless individuals who believed in me every step of the way. As I look ahead to the future, I am committed to representing Nigeria with pride, and to making a positive difference in the world.”
The UK joins Nigeria in celebrating this historic occasion and congratulates Newly Commissioned Officer Owowoh Princess Oluchukwu on her remarkable achievement.
