36-year-old Nere Teriba is building Nigeria’s first gold refinery. She is the first and youngest Nigerian to refine gold locally

36-year-old Nere Teriba is the Managing Director of Kain Smith Trade & Co Ltd, a company involved in mining, consulting, mineral concession management, minerals trading and brokerage. Founded in 2012, its mining portfolio and mineral expertise is primarily on gold.

After seven years of trying to get a license, Kain Smith Trade & Co Ltd was granted the first Gold Refining License in Nigeria in October 2018 and has already started work on its site in Ogun State, Nigeria.

The refinery will produce a capacity of 3 tonnes per month of 99.99% gold and 1 ton per month production of 99.99% silver.

When completed, the refinery will provide more than 500,000 jobs in two years as it will support its suppliers in their bid to become registered business entities in the mining sector. The refinery will also supply the Central Bank of Nigeria, the jewellery industry and the electronics sector.

Nere’s ultimate vision is to bring stability and organization to an industry that is plagued by illegal mining activities.

Her vision for the Nigerian mining sector is to have success stories in mineral exploration, mining & successful community development -all bringing positive holistic impact to the economy, which will finally put Nigeria on the map as a destination for mining.
