Ofunne Kate Osamor is the Labour and Co- operative MP for Edmonton and sits on the International Development Select Committee
In 2014 Kate was elected as a member of the National Executive Committee for the Labour Party and in 2016 was appointed by Rt Hon Jeremy Corbyn to sit on the National Executive Committee as a Shadow Cabinet representative.
Kate has served as a Labour MP for Edmonton since 2015 and successfully won re-election as Edmonton’s MP in 2017 and 2019 general elections.
Kate holds a degree in Third World Studies from University of East London. Before being elected as an MP in 2015, Kate worked as a GP Practice manager at an Enfield surgery, Kate is a trustee of a women’s charity based in Enfield which helps people cope with economic disadvantage.
In September 2015 Kate was appointed Private Parliamentary Secretary to Jeremy Corbyn MP, the then leader of the Official Opposition party. Kate has also served as a member of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Education and Petitions Committee from September 2015-June 2016.
Kate is Chair of the All-Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) in Nigeria and in 2018 she established the APPG on No Recourse to Public funds.
Since being elected, Kate has consistently used her voice as an MP to speak out for the most vulnerable in society; highlighting the impact policies will have on BAME communities, arguing for much fuller representation of Black and Ethnic Minority communities in political bodies, more investment in public services and campaigning on social justice issues.
