Think mining is only for men? You should hear Tiguidanke Mounir Camara’s story

Tiguidanke’s interest in mining sparked up when she worked in the fashion industry. She met jewelers in the United States whose stones were sourced from Africa and according to her, it made her think of the importance of native involvement.

This birthed the Tigui Mining Group (TMG), a mineral exploration company that focuses on gold, diamond, and associated minerals. Tiguidanke believes that TMG is a unique company and at the core of TMG’s values is the need to stop the old way of mining that leaves locals in poverty and lands bare.

“Africa has the richest soils worldwide. It is time for mining to become a factor for growth, sustainability and empowerment for our communities. TMG is leading the way and ensuring profits do not come at the cost of communities’ well being.”

Before starting TMG, Tiguidanke, a former model, had started two other companies; Foudis, a high-fashion clothing brand rooted in African tradition, and Danke, a skincare line made of organic products.

Although she admits that being an entrepreneur is not easy, the deep satisfaction and pride she gets in seeing her ideas become reality is a great incentive.

Well  done Tiguidanke!
