How to Volunteer and create impact!

The benefits of volunteering are endless! You not only get to put your mark on the world, but you also develop some skills and core competencies that make you desirable for recruiters.

Volunteering is a voluntary act in which an individual or group freely donates time and labor to serve the community.

Volunteering can help make some much-needed changes, especially in underprivileged communities. It can also allow you to network effectively.

In this article, we have highlighted helpful ways you can volunteer and create maximum impact

1. Identify Your Cause

In an ideal world, there wouldn’t be hunger or lack of shelter and basic needs. All humans would be treated equally irrespective of race, gender, or physical ability. The earth would be treated with respect and global warming wouldn’t be a thing.

Unfortunately, we live in a world far from ideal and there are various issues that affect people all over the world.

Think about the issues that mean the most to you. You could either pick one or two, or you could find a way they intersect.

The United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals is a good way to start identifying your cause.

2. Charity Begins at Home

Contrary to popular culture, you don’t have to travel to an African, or South American, or Asian country before you make an impact.

While it is nice that you’re thinking of the underprivileged so far away, no society is ideal. There are issues you can solve in your immediate community or communities close to you. Start there. Organize a fundraiser for the orphanage down the street. Plan a clean-up or a  plant-a-tree event in your zonal area.

Start with solving the problems that are occurring close to you before you go for the world.

3. Be Creative And Flexible

When you volunteer, you can come across unexpected roadblocks and difficult situations can come up. You have to embrace creativity to solve these problems.

Flexibility is also important, especially when dealing with people from different backgrounds. You have to be able to adapt as things come up with little to no fuss.

4. Work to Your Personal Strengths

Volunteering is a great way to learn new skills and develop new expertise. However, while learning these new skills, use your strengths to make an impression.

If you are a good writer, you could write riveting articles that further your cause and bring more attention to it. If you are great at planning, you could use that to plan fundraising events.

Volunteering is also a fine way to discover new strengths so you could try your hand at different activities to find them.
