CelluloidJunkie (CJ), the leading online resource dedicated to the global film and cinema business has revealed their fifth annual list of the Top Women in Global Cinema and Country Manager for Silverbird Cinemas Ghana, Funmilayo Onuma made the list. Hurray!
The annoucement which was initially due to be released in March was delayed due to the Coronavirus pandemic which caused the shut down of cinemas across the world and the cancellation of several major events. According to CJ, their list has always sought to be truly global in nature and they are proud to have more countries than ever, including many major cinema markets that were previously not represented on the list, including sub-Saharan Africa, and other countries.
Funmilayo Onuma, who is ranked #43 on the list, is the first ever female Country Manager to head a cinema not only in Ghana but also any cinema chain in Africa. Under her leadership she has helped Silverbird Cinemas Ghana (SBCG) set the record of being the highest grossing cinema in the whole of West Africa for “Black Panther” in 2018 and the second highest grossing cinema in Africa. This was topped by record numbers for “Avengers: Infinity War”, “Avengers: Endgame” and “Hobbs and Shaw”.
With her achievements so far Funmi is showing she is not just leading a cinema, or a country but a continent.
Congratulations to this Leading Lady!
