British fashion model, and activist Adwoa Caitlin Maria Aboah, graces our blog today for her commitment to providing a safe space for youth to discuss a range of issues from mental health to sexuality using “Gurls Talk”, a digital platform that houses discussions about mental health, body image and sexuality, and feminist issues.
The platform helps women share their stories whilst listening to the stories of others without judgment or stigma.
Asides from being a super model who has been in the game since her teenage years, Aboah has also proven to be one of the key faces in the modeling industry having starred in global campaigns for some of fashion’s biggest names, including Dior, Calvin Klein , Marc Jacobs and H&M.
She has also walked in shows for Chanel, Fendi, Miu Miu and Versace.
In honor of the 2018 World Mental Health Day, Adwoa Aboah shared her struggle with depression on Social Media- Instagram describing her battle with drugs and consequently attempted suicide.
In 2017, the fashion industry voted her as Model of the Year for models.com. In December 2017, she appeared on the cover of British Vogue; in 2019, Aboah was immortalized in doll form as part of Barbie’s 60th anniversary “Shero” collection.
