“I am not the next Usain Bolt or Micheal Phelps. I am the first Simone Biles.”
19 year old Simone Arianne Biles is an American artistic gymnast and currently the most decorated gold medalist in the world championship gymnastic history.
Her smile and jaw dropping moves have overtime endeared her to millions of people around the world.
Simone’s story hasn’t been all rosy as she had a pretty rough childhood. Born to drug-addicted parents and a father who abandoned the family, Biles and her siblings shuffled between her mother’s home and a foster home. When the foster home called her grandparents and informed them that Simone and her sister were up for adoption, they decided to adopt them so that they wouldn’t be raised by strangers.
Small but perfectly formidable, the 19-year-old American has already won two gold medals. However, all these wins are not by mistake. Biles has a schedule that the average 19 year old may not be able to keep up with.
In a typical week Biles trains on Mondays and Wednesdays from 12:30 to 5:30; on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 9 to noon and 3 to 6; and on Saturdays from 9 to 1. On Sundays, her one day off, she goes to church with her family.
All her hard work has paid off; Biles has now become the first woman from the United States to win four gold gymnastics medals in a single Olympics game. She has ended her epic Olympic journey with a total of five medals – 4 gold medals and 1 bronze medal.
