You may not know her so allow us to introduce Shaleen to you. She is a Zimbabwean and the founder and CEO Conquered events .
We told you that she’s woman crush, here’s why
When life gives her lemons she makes delicious lemonade from it!
Literally. Shaleen was born with a silver spoon in her mouth but when things took a turn for worse after her dad fell sick, this quintessential entrepreneur did not wallow in self pity. What did she do? She founded her first company L’eau Choisie, a still water brand. Again, when she was getting married in 2014 and didn’t find a wedding planner she founded her own events company, Conquered Events.
She knows the value of starting small
Shaleen started her still water brand with little cash but was ready to do the work to grow her company. Read her exact words “I asked a friend to create a logo for free and negotiated to make payments bit by bit with suppliers. We didn’t have any machinery, we did everything manually. We didn’t even have a machine to fill the water bottles; we had to measure with our eyes. I then moved door to door at big shops and asked them to taste and stock my water.” says Nullens. The sweat earned her a businesswoman of the year nomination from the Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce in 2012.
She knows how to give back!
An entrepreneur and philanthropist? Amazing combination. Her struggles years ago compelled her to give back and encourage others to do the same. She founded Celebs 4 Change, an NGO that encourages African A-listers to give their time to charity. On October 7, she will host the inaugural African Leaders 4 Change awards, hosted by Akon, in Sandton.
