Njeri’s success in entrepreneurship did not come by accident. Her story is one of passion and determination. She started her entrepreneurship journey by selling yogurt to high school kids during break time from the back of a rented car. She later became a hairdresser and while she was working in the salon, she discovered yet another viable business – selling luxury goods to her high net worth customers!
Talk about consistency.
In 2000, Njeri later co-founded Wananchi Online, East Africa’s first mass market Internet Service Provider (ISP) which has grown to become the region’s leading cable, broadband and internet-based phone company. The company, now Wananchi Group Holdings, has raised close to $60 million in growth capital from a consortium private equity firms.
Although she earned a lot of money and made an impact with this brand, Njeri is not one to rest on her oars. As a result, she went on to another project. This time, she formed Ignite Consulting and Investment Limited, a firm that specializes in coaching, strategy facilitation, organizational effectiveness and skills training. She is also the brain behind Business Lounge, a company that is helping other entrepreneurs build successful businesses.
It’s one thing to start one business and make a success of it. It’s another thing to start several businesses and succeed. Njeri is so good at entrepreneurship she makes it look pretty easy.
She strongly believes that discipline, consistency, passion and excitement about growth have helped her stay successful in business.
