Ndidi Okonkwo Nwuneli Becomes Chief Executive Officer of ONE Campaign

ONE Campaign, a leading advocate for ending extreme poverty and preventable disease, has appointed Ndidi Nwuneli as its new president and CEO. This marks a significant moment for the organization, with Nwuneli becoming the first African to lead its charge towards a brighter future, particularly for the continent.

Nwuneli brings a wealth of experience and dedication to the table. With an extensive background in food ecosystems, entrepreneurship, social innovation, and philanthropy, she boasts over 25 years of international development expertise. Her diverse portfolio includes:

  • Founding LEAP Africa, fostering African leadership.
  • Leading African Food Changemakers,empowering agricultural entrepreneurs.
  • Co-founding Sahel Consulting, a leading agriculture and nutrition firm.

Nwuneli’s appointment comes at a crucial juncture for Africa. Poverty and disease continue to challenge vulnerable communities, requiring innovative solutions and bold leadership. Nwuneli, recognized for her powerful communication skills and global network, is well-equipped to lead the charge.

Bono, ONE’s co-founder, expressed elation at having an African woman lead the organization. He views Nwuneli as a “present” for ONE’s 20th anniversary and believes she will steer the organization towards impactful change.

Nwuneli outlines her ambitious plans, emphasizing:

  • Building new partnerships, both locally and globally.
  • Securing innovative financing to empower the vulnerable.
  • Driving sustainable and equitable growth in Africa.
  • Ensuring transparency and accountability in resource allocation.

Nwuneli’s impressive resume includes an MBA from Harvard Business School, board positions at prestigious organizations like the Rockefeller Foundation, and previous roles as a senior fellow, visiting scholar, and Aspen Institute fellow.

ONE’s board chair, Tom Freston, lauded Nwuneli as a passionate advocate with an exemplary track record. He expressed confidence in her ability to lead ONE to new heights.

Nwuneli is set to begin her role on April 2nd, marking the start of a new chapter for ONE Campaign and its relentless pursuit of a poverty-free Africa.
