We’re delighted to share that Mimi Alemayehou joins Mastercard as Senior Vice President, Public Private Partnerships in the Humanitarian & Development Group.
Mimi Alemayehou is a development finance executive who has served as Executive Vice President of the U.S. Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) and as United States Executive Director of the African Development Bank. She will drive social impact partnerships and blended finance deals, working closely with the International Institutions Group to extend and accelerate Mastercard’s work among the most vulnerable populations around the world.
Alemayehou brings to Mastercard more than 25 years of experience in trade policy, development finance and infrastructure investment across emerging markets. She comes to Mastercard from Black Rhino Group, an investment platform focused on the development and acquisition of energy and infrastructure assets across Africa where she was Managing Director and a member of the Board of Directors.
Prior to Black Rhino, she was appointed by President Obama to serve as the Executive Vice President of the Overseas Private Investment Corporation, the development finance agency of the U.S. Government. Previously, Alemayehou was appointed by President George W. Bush to serve as the United States executive director on the board of directors of the African Development Bank (AfDB). In this role, she was the senior U.S. Treasury Department official in Africa, representing the United States on policy and development issues across the continent.
Alemayehou received a Distinguished Honor Award for her outstanding service from then-United States Secretary of Treasury, Henry Paulson. She will assume this new role effective immediately and will be based in Washington D.C.
