“In an industry dominated by men, it’s rare to see a woman in charge. Amy Jadesimi has a unique world”- CNN
We couldn’t agree more with CNN’s description of Dr. Amy Jadesimi. The managing director of LADOL Industrial Village, was a recent guest on the Network’s passion to portfolio. She shared the inspiration behind her work relocation to Nigeria, as well as a piece of advice for women entrepreneurs.
On her entrepreneurial journey in Nigeria
On why she chose to come back to Nigeria, Amy explained that she was interested in adding value to the country’s growing market. “I decided to move back to Nigeria after business school because I hadn’t really lived here since I was five years old. At the same time, I knew that I have enough education and experience that I could really add value in the market here. I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do, ironically the one thing I definitely didn’t want to do was work in oil and gas. When I got involved with LADOL, I realized that’s what I have been missing.”
On her thought on Success
For Amy, the key to success in any industry is working in line with one’s interest. Her advice to entrepreneurs: “take your time to find out what you care about and what you want to do with your life. I can’t emphasize this enough. As someone who’s had 3 or 4 different careers, each time I jumped careers, it was always because I saw an opportunity to do something that I thought would be interesting.”
On working in a male-dominated field
One thing is certain, Amy is doing really well for herself in the Oil Industry as she has successfully increased her Company’s labour capacity to accommodate more than 1000 workers since its inception in 2001. She admitted to the fact that working in a male-dominated industry is not without its challenges, however, she advised women to strive to be better at what they do.
“If you want to be successful in business, you have to work hard. Do what you love, work hard at it and find a way to integrate it into your life because the journey of achieving your business goal is also the journey of your life” she said.
