When Somali-American Model, Halima Aden contested for Miss Minnesota USA, she had no idea that her insistence to wear her hijab during the competition will be met with global reception and even though she ended up not winning the pageant, she had already started a mini revolution that Muslim black women will later come to appreciate.
Following her bold move at Miss Minnesota Pageant, she was signed by a reputed modeling agency and that began her journey into professional modeling. Halima is the first woman to wear an Hijab at a beauty pageant, the first Hijab wearing model to be signed to a major agency, walk international runway, grace the cover of Vogue Arabia and Allure Magazine.
She has appeared at New York Fashion Week, Milan Fashion Week, and participated in the London Modest Fashion Week. She has worked for several designers including Alberta Feratti and posed for British Glamour and American Eagle.
