ElectHER has received $100,000 in grants from Diatom Impact and the United States National Endowment for Democracy (NED).
In an agreement with both organizations for a one-year duration starting July 2020, ElectHER
will implement activities aimed at increasing women’s political representation and leadership in Nigeria. Diatom Impact has committed to support ElectHER with a grant of $50,000 for a one-year period. The funds will go towards setting up and launching the ElectHER Academy which will provide access to quality online and offline training for at least 1,000 Women interested in politics. The funds will also support the pioneer batch of the ElectHER Future Lawmakers Programme, a 6-month intensive fellowship and incubator programme aimed at identifying young women and equipping them with the tools, network, and resources they need to become Future Lawmakers in Nigeria.
Commenting on the partnership, Director of Impact and Research at Diatom lmpact, Dr. Anna Bethune said “We are so excited to see the change ElectHer will make in Nigerian politics in the comingyears. Female political leadership is vital to the development of a functioning democracy and equitable society.”
In addition to the above, Diatom Impact will also support ElectHER in building Institutional
capacity and brand awareness globally.
Similarly, ElectHER has also received a $50,000 grant from the United States National
Endowment for Democracy (NED). NED will support a project focused on advancing women’s political participation through Impact storytelling. With this support, ElectHER will use art, documentary style storytelling, as well as traditional consultative sessions to improve the negative perceptions and entrenched stereotypes that continue to encourage poor participation of women in politics.
With the support of NED, ElectHER hopes to change the behaviour and perception of women
and other stakeholders with the aim to increase the number of women who are engaged and
encouraged to decide, to run, and win elections.
Commenting on the partnerships, co-founders of ElectHER Ibijoke Faborode and Abosede
George-Ogan both confirmed how thrilled they are to get support for ElectHER and expressed
gratitude to Diatom Impact and NED for the vote of confidence promising to deliver in line with the specific project deliverables both aimed at advancing women’s representation and leadership in Nigeria.
