Today, we are absolutely inspired by the multi-talented and award winning creative visual artist, Tony Gum. This 23 year old has done so well for herself and we’re not only proud of her, but we are so inspired by what she has achieved over the years. Vogue.com has hailed Gum as “an international cool girl” while Artsy named her among its top 10 young artists to know at the FNB Joburg art fair in 2015.
Tony also won the prestigious 2017 Miami Beach Pulse Prize for her Ode to She photographic exhibition. Her famous black Coca-Cola series, and her thought-provoking self-portraits have earned her a place on the world stage with exhibitions as far as New York.
She has a word of advice to today’s youths;
“I want to appeal to the youth. I had nothing when I started out – no camera, no Photoshop – but I made it work. Today the iPhone is your platform and you can work with the means that you have to create. Once you start you can train your eye. If you’re not privileged, you come from a different point of view. Don’t limit yourself or let things limit you.”
