Danai Gurira and Lupita Nyong’o are both beautiful, talented and incredibly successful black women; breaking stereotypes and constantly promoting that #Blackgirlmagic. They are also the stars of Marvel’s billion dollar movie Black Panther.
But what we love most about these two is the fact that they are major #friendshipgoals. Here are 5 things we’ve learned from their amazing friendship.
You can shine together
Danai and Lupita are two strong, powerful and talented women in Hollywood; and they are both shining… together. Lighting another woman’s candle doesn’t dim yours.
Collaboration is the new competition
Leading Ladies don’t compete, they collaborate. Danai and Lupita are a great example of the magic women can bring when they work together. From working on Danai’s ‘Eclipsed’ to Marvel’s Black Panther, and the forthcoming film adaptation of Chimamanda Adichie’s novel Americanah – tell us again why competition is necessary?
Representation Matters
No shade… but we can count the number of successful black women in Hollywood. Seeing women like Danai and Lupita smash boundaries in an industry that is not always diverse is a great source of inspiration for other black women.
African Women are Rising
We love how seeing the Dora Milaje in Marvel’s Black Panther made us feel. Danai was the FIERCE Okoye, and Lupita was the equally amazing Nakia – warrior women who are a true representation of what African women really are. No surprises there – Danai is from Zimbabwe and Lupita’s from Kenya – how absolutely cool is that?
You should SLAY together
Whether it’s rocking those amazing sunnies, or strutting the red carpet in those fabulous dresses – sis, you need someone with whom you can slay with. And Danai and Lupita are #goals in that aspect! 🙂
