Tolulope Giwa-Sowande started the first healthy food and snacks restaurant in Benin City after she found it challenging to source healthy foods during her weight loss journey. Although she grew up obese, Tolulope decided to challenge the myth that some people will always be fat no matter how had they try. Her jouney convinced her to start a small business from the kitchen of her home to help provide healthy meals for other people who were trying to lose weight the healthy way.
Through the support she got from her husband, Healthy Bar was conceived. Not on to focus on disappointments, Tolulope simply goes back to the drawing board to re-strategise whenever an idea she is convinced about doesn’t turn out as expected. She spends an average of 18 hours a day working and this is one of the secrets of her success in business.
Despite the success she has recorded, her enterprise isn’t without its challenges. Financing for business growth and staffing still pose a challenge although she surmounts them through patience and perseverance.
In her words, ‘Do not focus on the physical rewards, such as money. Focus on building a brand that will last a generation and beyond.’
