Kendi’s love for chic, feminine and classic designs led her to start her own fashion label, Barbara McKenzie and three years after inception, the brand is doing quite well and it has been worn by South African stars at the SAFTAs, the South African Film and Television Awards.

During the consulting session, Kendi ensures that her clients are a critical part of the design process in order to make sure that their personal style is embodied in the finished product and with her expertise, a one-of-a-kind bespoke gown or effortless casual ready-to-wear dress is created.
Her dream is to see her dresses at more red carpet events, supplying boutiques and eventually opening her own physical store.
Like so many other designers, Kendi is awed anytime she sees the final product. “I love seeing my garment on a happy client, it just flushes away all the frustration, stress, and the sleepless nights that came with creating it. It just keeps you going and motivates you to do it one more time.”
