Tell us about yourself
I am Esohe Idehen, I am 18 years old, and I’m the founder of the Emissary Foundation. I’m passionate about the education and overall well-being of underprivileged children.
How did you find out about the Enterprise and Leadership Program?
I found out about ELP on a friend’s WhatsApp status, and I asked her for the registration link.
Did you have any hesitation when applying for this and what made you make the decision to be there?
I knew from the onset that the conference was going to be everything it turned out to be, but because it was a 3-day conference, I was skeptical about attending because I thought the duration was not feasible. But luckily, I was able to attend the 2nd and 3rd day of the conference.
What was your experience like during the 3-day program?
I learned a lot during the conference and I got to meet with really amazing people (including our facilitators). There were times where I had to use my phone to record the lectures because my hand couldn’t keep up with all the jotting. That was how much knowledge I got from the conference.
When you were announced as one of the people to pitch, what emotions were running through you?
When I was picked to pitch, I was a bit surprised because I was told that one of the criteria for eligibility was that you had to be present all 3 days of the conference which I wasn’t. I was also surprised because my BMC contained the details of an NGO rather than an actual business, so I was scared I wouldn’t get picked.
Congratulations on being one of the grant winners, what are the next steps for you?
Firstly, I’m going to legally register my NGO with the CAC, and then, go massive on our scholarship programs for the coming school sessions.
What are 5 lessons you took from this program?
- Nothing is beyond my reach.
- Never underestimate the power of your story.
