For some people, failure is enough to discourage them from pursuing their dreams but not for Karabo Mathang-Tshabuse. She found a way to successfully overcome failure using her passion for sports.

Karabo’s love for sports was initiated during the frequent visits she took to the stadium and listening to the cheers of her community as they watched a big soccer match. This love graduated into a desire to start a career in soccer and helping soccer players to land the most lucrative contracts and the best representation off the field. She took the FIFA agents’ exam but she failed twice.

This presented a big hurdle for Karabo. She couldn’t start an agency that helps soccer players if she was unable to pass the required exams.

Undeterred, Karabo took the exams again in 2009 and this time, she passed. Not only has Karabo launched her agency, she is currently pursuing a full-time postgraduate LLB degree with the goal of growing her company into the country’s biggest sports-law agency.

Her advice to women in male dominated careers is to persevere and be consistent.

“Keep your head down and let your work speak for itself. Your male counterparts will eventually see and accept you for the hard worker that you are.”
