Tips for Bagging That Promotion You Have Been Coveting

The following tips have been tried and tested by many people who looked to be promoted. A huge percentage of many people’s lives are taken up by work. Dashing out of the house at 5am only to return at 9pm or later.

Bagging that promotion requires more than that really. It requires going the extra mile even when you’re not asked to. In order to get a promotion, you need to demonstrate your absolute commitment to the company and your progression in the role. Other tips include:

Make friends in all the right places
Now, this may sound like a cheater’s way to get that promotion without the hard work. But this is simply not the case. Business is all about trust and relationships. If you provide that clear communication and focus on relationship building, you will be the first person they think of. Doing this won’t be so easy, you make friends by working hard, doing your job well, being adaptive and most of all, being team driven.

Befriending your boss or superior is also a way to learn the ropes. They can become your informal mentor. As you get to know that person, you will understand how they think, how they got to be where they are and therefore they can help you see your own path more clearly. It’s also a way to demonstrate your personality and stand out from the crowd, building trust and respect with the person who will potentially be in charge of promotions come the new year!

Dress for the job you want, not the job you have
So you’re going the extra mile, you’re not running out of the door at 5 and you’re all about those networking events clinking glasses with your boss. Now you’ve got this far, you must think of self-promotion! It’s not enough to befriend your superior and work yourself to the bone if you are going to be self-deprecating or let others get the praise for your hard work. Think self-representation, from the way you talk to the way you dress. Like a lawyer in court, you are presenting a case to your fellow co-workers.

This means staying professional at all times. Make sure you keep a log of your achievements and accomplishments. Your track record will be handy when you are sitting in that interview and subtly interjected into conversations. Bring up your successes with humility by acknowledging the hard work of others. See your triumph as a shared victory. This will demonstrate you are a team player and that you have the company’s interest at heart.

If you are able to keep these tips in mind, I guarantee your promotion will be around the corner!
