Three things Abosode George-Ogan taught us about building a conscious career

Abosede George-Ogan is the Director, Strategy, Funding and Stakeholder Management at the Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF). She recently published a book, “Building a Conscious Career“, where she shared useful tips on how to build a fulfilling and financially rewarding career.

Here are three things we learnt from Abosede about building a conscious career.

Discover yourself. You cannot build a conscious career if you do not truly know who you are. According to Abosede, “The first step to a fulfilling and rewarding career is to understand yourself.” What motivates you? What do you like doing? What are the things you do easily? Having an awareness of who you are will help you to pursue a career path this is right for you.

Know the difference between your passion and your career. Most people tend to limit their passion to a particular career but this should not be the case. Your passion is bigger than a career path. Your passion is what you want to offer to the world. We love the way Abosede puts it, “The less you tie your passion to a particular profession, the more options you will have of expressing that passion.”

Be intentional. A conscious career, one that you can look back on and be proud of, does not happen by chance. You have to be intentional about it. Where do you want to go in your career, how do you want to get there and what do you need to get there? “Building a conscious career is a choice; it is not something you just stumble on.”
