Meet Uduak Oduok, the Lawyer who Blended Two Polar Industries Perfectly!
The best words to describe Uduak would probably be “trailblazer” and “game changer”. In her own words, she is a Certified Game Changer, Practicing Attorney, Businesswoman, Journalist, Publisher, Writer and Blogger. For the average person, that is a lot of things to be. However, Uduak Oduok is that and much more.
From a young age, she knew she was interested in Fashion and Law. She pursued a career in modelling from high school through college, working for brands like Rampage and Wet Seal. As a result of her involvement in the fashion industry, she was able to gain hands on experience. She graduated from George Town University Law Centre where she bagged a degree in law.
About eight years ago, she founded Ladybrille, an organization established out of a burning desire to put a stop to the de-marginalization of the African woman and girl child. Since inception, Ladybrille has remained consistent in celebrating African women entrepreneurs while providing quality content on African fashion, entertainment, business and law.
Uduak has refused to be put in a box as she has successfully explored various areas of interest. She is the founder of Africa Music Law, a website founded to provide African music professionals with legal, financial and business relationship resources. Oduok is also the Co-founder of Ebitu Law Group based in in California which provides legal services including legal services for the fashion and entertainment industries.
She was named as one of AWP Network’s 2013 African Power Women and Applause Africa’s 40 under 40 leaders of African Heritage in the Diaspora. In 2014, she was nominated for the Archbishop Tutu Fellowship Programme. She was a 2012 NEA nominee for “Media Personality of the Year” and a 2010 nominee of South Africa’s AFI Fashion Awards for her “Outstanding Contribution to Fashion Communications.” A well-known legal commentator and speaker, she recently authored a soon-to-be published book for Nigerian entertainment professionals titled “Nigerian Music Industry & the Law, a Nigerian Artist’s Guide to Success in the Music Business.”
Uduak has been able to merge two seemingly polar industries in a perfect blend. She refused to be boxed into a corner or give up on any of the things she was passionate about. In her words, ‘I am so glad I never quit on my passion for fashion and the law.’
