Alsarah’s Music To The World…

 

Born in a country where the collapse of government, coups and breakdown of law was the order of the day, Sudanese- American singer, songwriter, ethnomusicologist and Activist Alsarah , birth name- Sarah Mohamed Abunama-Elgadi, leader of Alsarah & the Nubatones made it a duty to passionately use music to change the world, “physically, politically, and culturally by presenting her views on world issues, and the issues of her native- Sudan.

Her singing career began after graduation in 2004 from Wesleyan University, she moved to New York City and began singing professionally in Arabic, supporting herself with various odd jobs.

In 2010, she released a music video called “Vote!”, to encourage Sudanese citizens to vote in the country’s election.

Alsarah’s journey towards stardom as a double refugee, from native Sudan to civil war in Yemen carries on the tradition of African women by making sure historic stories are recorded.
