4 Things Every Female Entrepreneur Can Learn From Funke Bucknor-Obruthe

We love learning business lessons from successful entrepreneurs. Today, we are sharing the lessons every female entrepreneur can learn from Funke Bucknor-Obruthe, renowned wedding planner and CEO of Zapphaire Events.

Be on top of your game

As an entrepreneur, there’s no room for mediocrity. You must always bring your A-game. As Funke says, “Be creative, think out of the box. Identify your unique selling point and always make a concious effort to improve on yourself.”

Understand that you cannot have it all at the same time

Many people like to ask, can women have it all? By this they mean can they have a good career or run a good business and still have a stable home with a good husband and an entrepreneur. For Funke, “We cannot be everything, every time in our lives. You cannot be everything to everyone. You have to determine how you want to make it work. In order to be able to spend time with my children, for example, I have to do things extra early.”

Don’t beat yourself up when you drop the ball

Bring an entrepreneur can be difficult and it comes with its fair share of challenges. We love the way Funke puts it, “You have to realise that there’ll be sacrifices to make, you’ll have to drop the ball sometime, either as a mother, CEO or wife, and you don’t beat yourself up about it. I try as much as possible not to allow myself to be sad or upset about to many things.”

Never compare yourself to others

Comparison they say is a thief of joy. Funke says, “You must know yourself and don’t compare yourself to others. You don’t know what’s going on in people’s lives so don’t compare yourself with them. Just determine what you want for yourself.”
